FORT SHAFTER, HI HOUSING

Off Post Housing

The average price of a home in Honolulu is about $575,000. This is higher than the Hawaii state average of $517,000. A one bedroom apartment usually rents for $1,400, while a three bedroom is about $2,700 per month.

Honolulu is the state capital and largest city in Hawaii. It is located on the island of Oahu, where housing is easily found but can be expensive compared to the mainland. Within a 15 minute commute of Fort Shafter are the smaller communities of Kalihi-Palama, Liliha-Kapalama, Moanalua, Halawa, Aiea, and Waimalu.

Other military installations on Oahu include Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Schofield Barracks, and MCBH Kaneohe Bay. Living in Hawaii can be much different than the continental United States; the cost of living is high, but the scenery can hardly be beat. Families will find a unique culture of the islanders and plenty of beach, water, and outdoor activities.
